Constantin Krahmer Trio | Release: „Care“

Wohin entwickelt sich das Klaviertrio als klassische Jazzbesetzung aktuell? Der Pianist und Komponist Constantin Krahmer hat dazu ein klares Statement abgegeben und zeigt seinen ganz eigenen Zugang zum Klavier und zum Klaviertrio. Zweifellos ist er von der großen, bestehenden Tradition beeinflusst, aber er hat auch seine eigene, sehr persönliche Klangwelt geschaffen. Sie erinnert an die Klangsprache von Bill Evans, Paul und Carla Bley, an skandinavischen Jazz wie etwa von Jan Johansson oder Christian Wallumröd, aber auch an Morton Feldman, stellenweise sogar an Joseph Haydn oder Frederic Chopin.

Mit dem Kölner Schlagzeuger Leif Berger und dem New Yorker Bassisten Thomas Morgan (im Konzert vertreten durch Thorbjørn Stefansson) hat Constantin hierfür zwei hervorragende Partner gefunden, die das Trio mit ihren musikalischen Persönlichkeiten komplettieren und bereichern. Beide haben ein hochentwickeltes, musikalisches Gespür und können sich hervorragend auf Constantins intendierte Klangästhetik einstellen.

Am 23. Februar 2024 erschien das Debütalbum Care des Trios bei dem Rostocker Label Yew Records.

Constantin Krahmer studierte bis 2011 in Köln Jazzklavier und ist seitdem als freischaffender Musiker aktiv. Im Herbst 2021 ist er nach Rostock gezogen. Er spielte bereits mit namhaften Musikern wie Seamus Blake, Thomas Morgan, Ignaz Schick, Sebastian Gille, Carlos Bica, u.v.m. und ist ein gefragter Sideman in vielen Ensembles (Maik Krahl Quartett, Zuzana Leharovà Quartett, Ampair:e, etc). Darüber hinaus veröffentlicht er seine eigene Musik auf seinem Label Yew Records. Seit November 2021 unterrichtet er außerdem Klavier an der Hochschule für Musik in Rostock.

Thorbjørn Stefansson ist ein Kontrabassist und Komponist, der derzeit in Berlin lebt. Geboren in Dänemark im Jahr 1997, begann Thorbjørn seine musikalische Reise im Alter von 11 Jahren. Mit 15 Jahren gab er bereits Konzerte in der Stadt und wurde bald darauf in das Jazzprogramm der Skurups Folkhögskola in Schweden aufgenommen. Dort studierte und lebte er zwei Jahre, bevor er nach Berlin zog, um seinen Bachelor-Abschluss am Jazz-Institut Berlin zu machen. In Berlin wurde er schnell zu einem integralen Bestandteil der lokalen Jazzszene und arbeitete mit zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Künstlern zusammen, darunter Loren Stillman, George Garzone, Kit Downes, Jim Black, Ronny Graupe, Wanja Slavin und Jonas Burgwinkel. Im Jahr 2021 wurde ihm der JIB Jazzpreis für „Hervorragender Solist“ verliehen. Derzeit arbeitet er sowohl als Begleitmusiker als auch als Bandleader in zahlreichen Projekten, darunter Dream Big Fish, Nissen Mosh, Kaiser Pommes, Tom/Nissen/TB und Sun Ark.

Leif Berger hat sich schon jetzt in jungen Jahren zu einem der gefragtesten Schlagzeugern Deutschlands entwickelt und ist auch genreübergreifend überaus aktiv. So spielt er neben verschiedensten Jazzprojekten z.B. auch in der erfolgreichen Kölner Neosoul-Band Salomea. Seit 2020 ist er – gefördert durch Mittel des Ministeriums für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen – NICA-artist development-Stipendiat im Kölner Stadtgarten.

Where is the piano trio currently heading as a classical jazz instrumentation? The pianist and composer Constantin Krahmer has made a clear statement on this and shows his very own approach to the piano and the piano trio. He is undoubtedly influenced by the great existing tradition, but he has also created his own, very personal sound world. It is reminiscent of the sound language of Bill Evans, Paul and Carla Bley, of Scandinavian jazz such as that of Jan Johansson or Christian Wallumröd, but also of Morton Feldman, and in places even of Joseph Haydn or Frederic Chopin.

In the Cologne drummer Leif Berger and the New York bassist Thomas Morgan (subbed in the concert by Thorbjørn Stefansson), Constantin has found two excellent partners who complete and enrich the trio with their musical personalities. Both have a highly developed musical intuition and can adapt perfectly to Constantin’s intended sound aesthetic.

The trio’s debut album Care was released on February 23rd 2024 on the Rostock label Yew Records.

Constantin Krahmer studied jazz piano in Cologne until 2011 and has been a freelance musician ever since. He moved to Rostock in fall 2021. He has already played with renowned musicians such as Seamus Blake, Thomas Morgan, Ignaz Schick, Sebastian Gille, Carlos Bica and many more and is a sought-after sideman in many ensembles (Maik Krahl Quartett, Zuzana Leharovà Quartett, Ampair:e, etc). In addition, he releases his own music on his label Yew Records. Since November 2021 he also teaches piano at the Rostock University of Music.

Thorbjørn Stefansson is a double bass player and composer currently based in Berlin. Born in Denmark in 1997, Thorbjørn began his musical journey at the age of 11. By the age of 15, he was already giving concerts in the city and soon after was accepted into the jazz program at Skurups Folkhögskola in Sweden. He studied and lived there for two years before moving to Berlin to complete his bachelor’s degree at the Jazz Institute Berlin. In Berlin, he quickly became an integral part of the local jazz scene and worked with numerous national and international artists, including Loren Stillman, George Garzone, Kit Downes, Jim Black, Ronny Graupe, Wanja Slavin and Jonas Burgwinkel. In 2021 he was awarded the JIB Jazz Prize for „Outstanding Soloist“. He currently works both as an accompanying musician and as a bandleader in numerous projects, including Dream Big Fish, Nissen Mosh, Kaiser Pommes, Tom/Nissen/TB and Sun Ark.

Leif Berger has already developed into one of the most sought-after drummers in Germany at a young age and is also extremely active across genres. In addition to various jazz projects, he also plays in the successful Cologne neo-soul band Salomea, for example. Since 2020, he has been a NICA artist development fellow at Cologne’s Stadtgarten, funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
